Late 19th C. Barbizon, gold leaf with applied ornament and a wide liner.

This frame has a wide flat liner with the outer frame having large acanthus leaves at the corners and an overall design of leaves and flowers. Barbizon frames are stylistically derived from the carved 18thC. Louis XIV frames and named after the Barbizon region in north central France which was a popular area for late 19th C. landscape painters. Original finish of gold leaf over gray bole and natural patina.
