Early 20th C. carved and Roman gilded laurel leaf cushion frame
This frame has bead and reel sight and outside edges with a broad torus profile of over-lapping laurel leaves and berries with leaf like straps at the corners and centers. the laurel leaf is an ancient Greek and Roman motif dedicated to Apollo and Mars with references to poetry and the visual arts. In ancient Greece victors were crowned with laurel leaves. It is an evergreen plant that also signifies the eternal.
