French 18th C. carved and gilded frame

This Louis XIV frame has a a foliate sight edge, sanded frieze and a flowing ogee profile with low relief C-scrolls and leaves on a grain d’orge (oat grain) or crosshatched background. Prominent corner and center cartouches with scrolling leaves, fanned lambrequins and the scrolling strap work are characteristic of the Louis XiV frames. Original gold leafed surface.
